Marquette Ore Dock View

Chuck Lambros Beach Park offers great views of the Marquette Ore Dock. There is another unmarked beach parking lot just to the north on Lake Shore Blvd that allows you to get even closer to the dock. The other side of the ore dock can be seen from Presque Isle Park, which also offers some great Lake Superior shoreline views if you drive along Peter White Drive as it loops around the park.

Lee A. Tregurtha Loading Ore in Marquette, Michigan

826' Great Lakes freighter, Lee A. Tregurtha of the Interlake Steamship Company, loading iron ore in Marquette, Michigan. This video shows the ship lining up with the ore dock. The ore chutes deploy and dispense ore into the hold. The crew then secures all of the hatch covers and the boom. Then the vessel backs off of the dock and does a 180 degree, thruster powered turn in the harbor, before rounding the light house and sailing off onto Lake Superior. The white boom that can briefly be seen on the other side of the ore dock belongs to the 650' freighter Wilfred Sykes. September 23, 2024
