Grand River Navigation, started in the year 2000 and based in Traverse City, Michigan, is a U.S. subsidiary of Rand Logistics. The company operates a diverse fleet of river class ships and articulated tug barges. The river class vessels, typically less than 650' in length, are able to service restricted ports that the larger ships cannot access. The fleet carries dry bulk cargo, including limestone, coal, iron ore, salt and grain. Most of the Grand River Navigation vessels have a gray hull with white trim and a red stripe. This color scheme is shared with sister company Lower Lakes Towing, which is a Canadian subsidiary of parent company Rand Logistics.
