Headquartered in Duluth, Minnesota, Great Lakes Fleet was formed in 1967, when owner U.S. Steel consolidated their Pittsburg Steamship division and Bradley Transportation Company. The company now operates as a subsidiary of Canadian National Railway. Great Lakes Fleet is a diverse collection of classic lake freighters, a river class freighter and three one-thousand-footers, including the unique 1,000' long, integrated tug barge Presque Isle. Great Lakes Fleet vessels have a dark red hull, with a black and gray stripe on the bow. These colors represent the primary cargoes of iron ore, coal and limestone.
