The Last Ship to See the Edmund Fitzgerald Before Tragedy Struck

767 Foot long classic Great Lakes freighter Arthur M. Anderson (Great Lakes Fleet) heading upbound on the St. Clair River, passing under the Blue Water Bridge, on the gloomy and solemn 49th anniversary of the tragic sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald. November 10, 2024.

767 Foot long classic Great Lakes freighter Arthur M. Anderson (Great Lakes Fleet) heading upbound on the St. Clair River, passing East China Township, Michigan, on the gloomy 49th anniversary of the tragic sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald. The Anderson is forever connected to the loss of the Fitzgerald, as she was traveling less than 20 miles behind the Fitzgerald on Lake Superior in that violent November storm in 1975. The last communication heard from the Fitzgerald was a radio call to the Anderson stating, "We are holding our own". Soon after, the Fitzgerald disappeared from the Anderson's radar and was not seen or heard from again, until she was later found on the bottom of Lake Superior near Whitefish Point. All 29 of her crew were lost. November 10, 2024.
